Everyone has a different taste and choice when it comes to choosing the paint for the house. There are no specific rules for it. Each one can go according to his or her choice. However, you can always consider a few points when it comes to painting your house.
Preference, furniture, and size of the room
1. Use the colour you like: Whatever paint we get done in our house remains there for 3 to 7 years. So it is important that you pick a colour of your choice so that you don’t regret it later.
2. Consider your existing furniture while choosing the paint: In whichever area you are getting the paint done, you must consider the colour of your furniture that is lying there. We generally can’t change the colour of the furniture and cannot get it painted, so it is good to blend the colour of the wall with it. Also if there is any structure that is not going to be painted then blend it with the colour of the paint on the wall.
3. Consider the size of the room: If you are painting a room that is small in size then you can use light colour to make it look big. If the size of the room is big then you may use dark colours.

4. Colours on nearby walls: Another point to consider while painting a room is what is the colour of the nearby walls. If the colour is light or dark and if it will go with the colour of the nearby wall. If you are using wall paper then also the colour of the wall that you are painting must be coordinated with the colour of the wall paper of the nearby wall.
5. Light in the room you are painting: You must consider the amount of light in the area that you are going to paint. If there is good amount of natural light or if you have put lot of light then you can use slightly darker shades or the bold shades but if there is very less natural light then you must go for lighter shades of colour of the paint on the wall.
6. Use of the place or room: You must consider how you are going to use the place or the room where the paint is being done. If it is a puja room, we can use a lighter shade, if it is an activity room we can use brighter shades, or if it is a drawing room we can use a darker or lighter shade based on the colour of the furniture and lighting in the room.

7. Get sampling done before painting: In all the colours it is the safest thing to get sampling done before painting any room. You can make patches of the sample colour on the wall or you can paint primer on the board and then put different shades of the same colour on the board and select the one which is the best according to you.
8. Use different shades of one colour: You can opt for different shades of the same colour in one room, so each wall turns out to be a slightly different shade of that colour. This looks very good.
9. Be careful while using dark colours: You should be very careful while using dark colours, it is quite risky so it is better to use it after sampling it. If you want to highlight the wall then you may as well use the wallpaper.
10. Use lighter tone of same colour in ceiling: You can try using a very lighter shade of the colour on the wall for the ceiling that also looks good. For example if you are using pink colour for your wall then you can use a very lighter tone of pink colour for your ceiling in that room.
