WORK TRIANGLES IN MODULAR KITCHEN

Introduction

WORK TRIANGLES  is a concept of designing in MODULAR KITCHEN, to ensure a functionally efficient kitchen.

What is the work triangle in the modular kitchen?

The work triangle in a modular kitchen is an old concept for designing a  kitchen, that helps to plan out an efficient kitchen. It is an imaginary triangle that connects the refrigerator, cooktop, and sink

Prerequisites of designing a work triangle in  modular kitchen

– Each side  should measure between 4 and 9 feet

-the sum of the sides should  be between 13 feet and 26 feet

– No side should cut through an island or peninsula

– Avoid traffic flow through the triangle

The benefits of the work triangle in modular kitchen

It  reduces the number of steps through the working space  increasing the efficiency of the modular kitchen

What is a Kitchen work zone in modular kitchens

A modern concept of modular kitchen is work zones which  divides the kitchen layout by function

– Food storage (refrigerator, pantry)

– Food prep (cooktop, oven, microwave, small appliances, cutting boards, mixing bowls, spices, etc,)

– Pots & pans

– Cleaning & waste (dishwasher, sink, cleaning supplies, garbage, and compost bins)

– Plates & cutlery (glasses, cutlery, plates, bowls, coffee maker, electric tea kettle)

The drawback of work zone concept in modular kitchens

One drawback is that for larger kitchens these zones tend to be too far that three main elements become too far to be convenient so It is advisable to consider the work triangle approach as a starting place and layer on the zones concept.

Blinds vs Curtains, what is better?

Introduction

Blinds vs curtains, this discussion often comes up when we decide about the window treatment. As when it comes to designing of a home the window treatment also is an integral part of it.  Window treatment depends upon how much light we want to let in and what is the look and feel that we want to create.  When it comes to window treatment we can either use blinds or curtains.  There is often a debate as to blinds vs curtains which one is better.  In this post we will look into detail the differences between the blinds and the curtains and which is better and why.

1.  Mechanism: Window curtains are a piece of fabric suspended at the top to form screen, typically movable sideways along a rail and found as one pair at a window. Whereas, blinds have slats that can be tilted, opened, or closed using cords that run through the blinds.  There orientation can be vertical or horizontal.

Our stand:  Curtains are better for they have an easy and simple mechanism.

2.  Material: Window curtains are made of colourful fabrics of different textures.  Depending upon the interiors of your house you can choose from a wide range of materials like cotton, silk, polyester, linen, lace etc.  Whereas window blinds are made up of hard materials like wood, bamboo, aluminium, plastic, or composite materials.

Our stand:  Curtains are better as they offer wider range of materials.

Blinds vs curtains: Sound

3.  Insulation and soundproofing: Curtains do not have gaps so they don’t let the sound pass through them, thus they are better at insulation and soundproofing. Blinds have gaps that allow the sound to enter, therefore it offers less insulation and soundproofing.

Our stand:  Curtains are better if you want to soundproof your home.

4.  Types: There are various types of curtains available like flat panel, tab top, grommet, rod pocket, and thermal.

Whereas, blinds are available in different types like venetian blinds, vertical blinds, faux wood blinds, panel track blinds, mini blinds, roller blinds, roman blinds etc.

Our stand:  Both offer a good range of choice, so choose based on your interior design and style.

5.  Space: Curtains take more space than blinds and therefore it makes the room appear smaller.  Whereas blinds take less space and it saves space because it does not requires any area on the sides of the window like curtains, so they make the room appear bigger and are a preferred choice for people living in small apartments and even for small office spaces.

Our stand:  Blinds are better if you have a smaller space.  You can opt for curtains for larger rooms.

6.  Designs: Curtains come in a wide range of widths, lengths, thicknesses, fabrics, styles, colours, patterns and levels of transparency.  Whereas, blinds come in many styles, colours, and textures but they are not as versatile in design as curtains.

Our stand:  Curtains are better from design standpoint as they offer a wide range of choice.

Light

7.  Light control: Curtains filter out some light but they cannot filter all of it and so it cannot keep your bedroom totally dark.  Whereas, blinds have slats that can be adjusted and with that we can control if more or less light comes through the window.

Our stand:  If you want a better control of light in your room, blinds are better.

8.  Ease of cleaning: Curtains are easy to clean as it can be washed in the washing machine.  Though lot of dust can get accumulated in the curtains so they need to be cleaned regularly.  Whereas, blinds are easier to clean in case of stains or splashes.  For example, venetian blinds can be wiped with a duster.  Other blinds are also easy to clean by following the manufacturer’s instructions.  Some blinds may be difficult to clean, especially if they need to be removed each time.  Water can also damage some types of plies that are made of wood or aluminium.

Our stand: Curtains are better when it comes to ease of cleaning.

9.  Winter season: Window curtains can keep a room warmer, whereas window blinds are less efficient in keeping the room warm and heated.

Our stand:  Curtains are better in winters and in all seasons.

10.  Operation: Curtains are easy to operate, whereas blinds are difficult to operate especially for children.

Our stand:  Curtains are better when it comes to ease of operation.

Usage

11.  Uses: Curtains are mainly used in residences i.e. bedroom, living room, drawing room etc.  Whereas, blinds are most commonly used in the commercial buildings like offices, hospitals, restaurants etc.

Our stand:  Select on the basis of where you want to use them in residence or at the office and commercial purpose.

12.  Life: Curtains can last up to 10 years depending on the quality of cloth and thickness.  Whereas blinds can last up to 15 years depending on type and brand.

Our stand:  It depends what factors are more important for you and what type of space you are using them for.

13.  Price: Curtains are cheaper as compared to blinds.  The price of curtains varies depending upon type of fabric and thickness.  The blinds, on the other hand are often more expensive than curtains.  Plastic blinds are cheaper but wood and vinyl blinds are costlier.

Our stand:  Blinds vs curtains, choose as per your requirement and budget.
