8 Questions to ask before designing your kitchen

It is important that before you design your kitchen you ask some questions to have a complete clarity about your needs so that you may design your kitchen accordingly.  Here are 8 most important questions that you must ask before designing your kitchen.

1Who is going to cook in the kitchen most of the time, me or my cook?: Based on the answer of this question you will design your kitchen. If you are going to cook in your kitchen then it could have even a light colour of cabinets, which is not so easy to maintain, whereas if it is your cook who is going to cook in the kitchen the cabinet should be of darker shade as it would be easy to maintain.

2.  How many times we are going to cook in the kitchen?: If you cook once in a day you many not require too much counter space and may require lesser storage but if you cook twice in a day or thrice in a day then you will need a lot of counter space and lot of space for storage as kitchen would be used more frequently and all the cutting and peeling, and washing work will happen for which you will need counter space and since many utensils will be needed for cooking, you will need more storage.

3.  What should be the placement of my gas stove as per the vastu?: The most important thing about the kitchen is the placement of the gas stove. The right direction for the placement of gas stove as per vastu is the southeast direction of the kitchen.  You should be facing in the east direction for cooking the food.  According to the placement of the gas stove you can decide where you want to put the shelves above the countertop and what type of storage will come right under the gas stove.  You may be wanting a storage for your ladles and pans and utensils that you need for cooking right under the gas stove.  If you are going to place a cooking range you will leave space for that and have your storage in the side.

4.  How often do I use my mixer-grinder, where should I place it?: You should ask how often you use your mixer-grinder while cooking.  If you want to put it on the countertop for the frequent use or if you want to put in the storage as you do not need it every day.  For a cleaner look you must opt for putting your mixer-grinder in the storage, however if you are using it with every meal that you are cooking then it could be cumbersome to take it out every time and in that case you can designate a permanent place for it in your countertop and keep cleaning the appliance after every use.

5Where would I place my gas cylinders?: It is important to decide a place for your gas cylinders.  If it would be placed inside the kitchen or there is a place outside the kitchen in your home like a store room or a storage in the kitchen balcony.  If you do not have any such storage then you will have to make a storage for it in the kitchen and design the rest of the storage for utensils accordingly.

6.  Where would I place my microwave?: You should answer this question as well as to where would you place your microwave?  If it would be placed on the countertop or inside a storage with a shutter or inside an open storage.  The place for microwave has to be decided for you to design a storage that includes a space for your microwave.

7.  Do I want space for storing my groceries?: You must decide storage for your groceries based on how frequently you buy your groceries.  If you stock up your groceries for a month then you need a storage for that and if you buy grocery in small quantities on as needed basis then you do not need much storage for it and you can keep storage space for other things.

8Where would I place my water storage?: You need to decide a place for your water storage.  You need to answer this question as to whether you would store water in a water dispenser or in an earthen pot or if you would install a water purifier.  If you are putting a earthen or steel pot for water storage, you will have to keep a separate space for that or else if you are installing a water purifier you will have to find a place for it.

If you have a clarity about all the above aspects you will be able to design your storage such that the functionality of the kitchen will be enhanced.  At Creativebuild, we ask all these questions and more to have a clarity about your needs for storage and design the modules of cabinets accordingly.

5 Tips for choosing a minimalist home decor

In today’s time and age where everyone is always on the go, it is intelligent to opt for a design and decor that is easy to maintain. A minimalist decor not only looks good it is easy to maintain as well. A minimalist decor is one where lighting, space, and the objects that you put play a significant role in adding beauty to the home. Choosing this style means that you reduce the furnishing to the extent that they are bare minimum and you only keep selected items that stand out against a minimalistic background. Here are a few tips that would make your home look decorative and beautiful even with less furniture and accessories:
1. Steer clear of clutter: The first rule of creating a minimalist home decor is to steer clear of all clutter. One way of doing this is refraining from buying the unnecessary stuff. Don’t buy things that you do not need no matter how attractive they look. As they say,” Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. For a cleaner space, there should be enough storage to keep all your belongings that need not be displayed on your table, side table, or dining table, or kitchen countertop. The more your stuff is inside the cleaner the house looks.
2. Neutral theme for walls and curtains: Being minimalistic means choosing colours for walls and curtains that are either neutral or white. This makes the space look bigger and brighter. You can also opt for ivory colour or shades of cream for that cool and soothing look that is minimalistic and makes every other object in your room standout be it a piece of furniture or a wall mounted TV set. You must always coordinate the colour of your curtains with the colour of your walls. You never get bored of a minimalistic white coloured or cream coloured wall and it feels so positive and bright that you want to spend more time in your home surroundings.
3. Let light in: Another aspect of a minimalistic decor is letting lot of natural light come in. It makes the space look brighter and accentuates other aspects of the decor. You can use sheer curtains or blinders for windows so that it allows enough light to come in at the same time gives you privacy. You can use slated movable panels as well in place of a window for ample light to come and at the same time totally shielding you from the outside view.
4. Use colours that blend well: You must use colours of the wall, curtains, and storage in such a way that they blend well with each other. Too much colour on the walls and too many dark shaded curtains may look chaotic and messy. So it is always a good idea to use shades of wall that blend well with each other. Even if you want to paint each room with different colour make sure that each colour blends well with the other for a minimalistic look.
5. Buy storage that is stylish: For a minimalistic look you have cleared the clutter and put your stuff in the storage yet there are things that still make their appearance on the dining table. For example, in an Indian home you do not know where to put your pickle bottle or the namkeen and biscuits jars, so you need a storage. So what you want to be doing is invest in a stylish storage that not only stores your extra stuff, it also looks chic.
As they say less is more. At Creativebuild we believe in keeping the interiors simple yet beautiful, not overly decorated yet aesthetically pleasing.

Diwali is around the corner and everyone gets busy with cleaning of the house and buying new stuff for home around this time.  This is the time of the year when every Hindu household gets busy with decorating their home for welcoming the Goddess Laxmi.  Here are few ideas about how you too can decorate your home this Diwali and while you enjoy the process of decoration, you do not spend a fortune on it and yet the house looks bright and sparkling.

1. Bring Goddess Laxmi idol and decorate it: You can begin your decoration with bringing Goddess Laxmi idol and can drape a nice chunni around it like a sari and use artificial jewellery to decorate it. You may also adorn it with fresh flower garland.
2. Decorate you puja room with flowers and paper glass lamps: You can decorate your puja room with fresh flowers for the day. You can use rose garlands, marigold, and mogra garlands for the decoration. You can decorate the wall where you place the idol with long hanging flower garlands. You can make a hole in a paper glass and put a string light in the hole and make a string of these glasses connected with the string light and put it on a wall letting it hang on nails. Glass lamps look good and give a different effect to your home.
3. Decorate the entrance of your home with Rangoli: It is believed that Goddess Laxmi visits each home on the day of Diwali so our entrance should look beautiful to welcome her. For this you can create beautiful Rangoli at the entrance of your home. You can create any floral design, swastika, or om and decorate it with flower petals and diyas.
4. Paint diyas and decorate it in your balcony or exterior wall: A very good substitute of expensive designer diyas is diyas painted by you. It will not only look good but you will enjoy the process of painting it as well. Painted diyas look beautiful and you can paint one to be kept in puja thali and others for very specific places in the indoors where there is enough lighting to highlight the painting on the diyas. You can put these diyas in your balcony or on exterior wall of your home as well.
5. Decorate plants with string lights: You can decorate plants in your lawn or in your balcony with string lights. They not only look beautiful but give a natural look and create an ambience that is difficult to match.
6. Put a colourful toran at your main entrance and entrance of your puja room: Diwali is all about welcoming health, wealth, prosperity and happiness into your home. And what better way than to put a nice beautiful and colourful toran at your main entrance. There are many varieties of torans available in the market, some are adorned with beads, some with embroidery and some with a natural leafy look. You can choose one according to your choice and decor and let it adorn the main entrance of your home.
7. Rearrange the furniture in home: A very nice and inexpensive way to decorate your home is to rearrange the furniture in your home. It breaks the monotony of your home and gives you an opportunity to clean the spaces where your brooms have not reached in a long time. It enhances the cleanliness as dust from all the hidden corners can be cleaned and the rearrangement of the furniture brings a new look to your home.
8. Buy some new artificial flowers and lamps: Another rather economic way of decorating your home on Diwali is to buy some nice artificial flowers and lamps. Artificial flowers also enhance the ambience of your drawing room or wherever you keep it in your vases. There are many varieties of lamps also available in the market, some look like they are lit with diyas, they are called deepam lamps, they look rich when kept near an idol or anywhere in your drawing room or living room.
Diwali comes once in a year and it is the time to celebrate all that you have with love, gusto, and gratitude. We at Creativbuild wish our readers a very happy and prosperous Diwali.
