1. Assess the size of your house: If you live in a small home where you can see the entire home from one place, then you have to ensure that it all feels one.  If you have a bigger home, you can try different colour palettes.  However, if you do that in a small home, it will look messy.

2.  Define your colour palette: You should pick different colours that you love.  Then make sure that they go well with each other.

3.  Keep it mostly neutral: In addition to picking your colour palette it is important to keep the base neutral.  You can play with the different shades but try to keep it within the same family of colour.  A good way to do is to remember 60/30/10 rule, where 60% can be neutral, 30% can be the secondary colour, and 10% can be the accent colour.

4.  Know your theme: Make sure what the vibe of your house is.  It can be farmhouse or modern.  Whatever it is keep that theme.  Make it feel that it connects.  All of it doesn’t have to be too matchy but it should be in harmony.

5.  Purge the old: If you have something that was gifted years ago and doesn’t go well with your current style.  Then just let it go.  If you have had something for long, see if it matches your style.  Do you like it?  If you don’t then you can do away with it.

6.  Have the same flooring throughout: Having the same flooring throughout will create a cohesive vibe.  And it will round your environment.

7.  Utilize similar textures and fabric: If you use the same type of fabric in your sofa and dining chairs the home looks cohesive.  The decor of the home looks good when it is cohesive.

8.  Have constant trim details: At all the doors have the same type of cutout shapes, especially the inside doors.  Then all doors should have similar knobs.  This ensures that your decor is cohesive.

1.  Main door

2.  North East Corner

The north east corner is very important in vastu because this is the place of God.  So it can also be used for making a prayer room or a puja room.  This is the main source of prosperity and promising wealth in the house:

A.  The north east corner should always be kept clean and completely clutter free.   Keep it open at all times to attract wealth and prosperity towards you.

B.  Keep only light furniture in the north east side of your home. If possible you can make it into a puja room i.e. a place where you worship or do meditation or if not that then an exercise room.

C.  Keep a water fountain that is flowing in this part of the house.

D.  If you have a fish aquarium at home then place in it in the north east corner. And the aquarium should be having the right number of fishes in it and it should be cleaned regularly.

3.  South west corner

It is believed that the money, the wealth, or the important property documents should be kept in this corner of the house.  So here are a few tips:

A.  The placement of the cupboards or almirah should be such that it should be facing north or north east. The jewellery or cash should be kept here.  This is because Lord Kuber who is the lord of money is residing in this direction.

B.  Keep a mirror in cash box to magnify cash and jewellery for wealth creation.

C.  Never keep locker or almirah in which you have locker under any beam as it can put a lot of financial stress on you.

Colours

You can use colour to create the good ambience in your home.  Starting from the colour of the walls to choosing the colour of your furniture i.e. your sofa, your dining table with chairs, and your bed, you can choose colour that reflect your taste and soothe your mood and can harmonize various colours with each other.  You add layers of more colour with bed sheets, pillow covers, rugs, and artefacts on the walls.  This way you can just accentuate the look and feel of the place.

Fragrance

Just as the colour adds to the overall ambience, the fragrance can also be a factor that can add to it.  You can use oil diffusers for fragrance and choose the fragrance that you like.  Another good way to add fragrance is incense stick and aromatic candles that create a totally different ambience.

Texture

Another sensory perception is touch.   So how your furnishings feel is dependent on their texture.   Cotton feels different than the velvet and it is up to you what you want in terms of texture.

6.  Coastal: Costal home feel light and airy with a lot of sand colours and bright white.  Also you want to mix in some greens and blues.   In this style you accessorize with sea shells, jute rope, and sail boats.

7.  Farmhouse: If  you like handy and practical decoration with some sophistication in style then you probably have a farmhouse style.
