6 Interior design mistakes that you must avoid

Introduction

For your interior design to look good it is very important that everything is in its proper place, everything that you put in the rooms is in harmony with each other and each room’s interior is synchronized with the other.  There should be a flow in the interior of each room and your home should feel like a beautiful and comfortable place for you to relax and live your best life in your home.  However, we do sometimes make some mistakes when it comes to interiors and if we avoid those mistakes the overall effect can just be much better.  Even though I have written about it in my earlier blog, it is a topic that one can discuss over and over.  So here are top 6 interior design mistakes that you must avoid:

Avoid these mistakes

1.  Not hanging your curtains high enough: The first mistake that people make is hang their curtains way to low.  They do not hang their curtains close to the ceiling, they hang them close to the window, which, makes the whole house look small and that is not the vibe that you want when you walk into your home.  You want your eyes to go up.  Your curtains should match the color of your wall and it is always good to have curtains that are light in color like white.

2.  Not measuring before you purchase: The second mistake that people make is that they do not measure before they purchase before they go to shop.  So what is recommended is either you draw a floor plan or you take measurements of your space or furniture that you have and note it down somewhere so that when you go for shopping you don’t end up buying things that are out of proportion.

3.  Picking the wrong rug size: The third mistake that you may be making is picking the wrong rug size for the space.  If you pick a rug that is small it can make your space look small as opposed to widening out the space and making the space look bigger.   Specifically in the living room you want the rug to go at least half way under the furniture.  It should be a big rectangular rug that should fill your space.

Common mistakes

4.  Hanging your art too high: This is the fourth common mistake that people make.  In theory, your art when you hang it should be your eye level.  If you have bigger space you can make it go a few inches higher but generally it is good to keep it at the eye level.  If your art is near a window or a door frame then the height of the door frame and height of the art should be somewhat similar.

5.  Putting all of your furniture up against walls: This is the fifth common mistake that people make.  Bringing the furniture away from the walls and setting them up in different angled areas will allow for a better community feeling, better conversation areas and it doesn’t make the space feel really awkwardly broken up and just starkly open.  You want to make it feel cozy but you should do it in a way that allows convenient walk ways, doesn’t block doors and there is kind of a strategy behind doing that.

6.  Using complete matching furniture sets: The sixth common mistake that people make is they go to furniture stores and they buy a furniture set and that is what they put into their bedroom or into their homes.  You can actually buy furniture that actually looks cohesive and is in harmony with each other but it doesn’t need to be a set that looks too similar.

Conclusion

If you want your interiors to look good then you must make it look unique and make it match your personal style and at same time avoid the above common mistakes.
