5 Tips to decorate a beautiful living room

Living room is a place in your home where you hang around most of the time.  It is a place where you can welcome some informal guests as well or a place where you hang around after a party.  So it should be beautifully decorated and nicely done for you to feel good and enjoy the most.  Here are some of the tips to decorate a beautiful living room.

Design, colour, and layout

1.  Pick a design style and color palette: You always want to start by picking your design style and also deciding on a color palette. Decide on one or two colors or may be three and make sure that they go together.  The important thing to keep in mind while deciding the color is the color of your wall paint as it really sets the ambience.  White often looks good for a living space and makes it look bigger.

2.  Decide on a functional layout: If your main door opens in the living room then make sure that you leave enough space in front of your main door for people to walk in and out.  So put your furniture like the sofa and table accordingly.  Also put sofas in the living room that are comfortable and avoid white and cream shades for you sofas as they may get stained and it may be a challenge to maintain them.

Focal point, softening, finishing touches

3.  Pick a focal point: You can pick a focal point or two depending on your space to decorate it.  And have a piece of art in that focal point or you can have beautiful curtains if it is a window.

4.  Soften the room: Adding pillows to your sofas or couch brings an element of softness to the room.  You can also put a soft rug below to give a softer look to the room.  Also You may put a coffee table in the center and that can also be of a softer color.  You can match the color of your coffee table with your dining table as well.

5.  Add the finishing touches: Finishing touches are the things like art prints, books on the table.  It is all about accessorizing the space.  It is also about adding greenery.  The more you add small elements of decoration into the room the more beautiful it looks.  These are small little details that may not appear as very significant but when you put all of it together it really looks beautiful and gives a nice effect.

Tips for decorating your dining room

Dining room in your home is an area where you spend a lot of time not only while having your breakfast, lunch, or dinner but also when you have a conversation over the lunch or dinner table.  It is an area of home where mostly all people of the family meet and chit chat and have their tea or coffee as well.  So it is the liveliest part of the home and the décor of this area must reflect that liveliness.  Here are some of the tips about how to decorate your dining area.

1.  Rugs:  Rugs look good in the dining space as they really ground the dining space.  Your rug should be bigger than the dining table and be of the same shape as your dining table.  If your dining table is circular use a circular rug and if your dining table is rectangular, use a rectangular rug.  The rug makes the room look bigger.

2.  Table: While choosing a dining table for your dining room, you must pick one that is not too big for your space and there is space to maneuver around that way your room doesn’t feel small.   You should have at least 2 to 3 feet space at the sides of the table to get up and move your chairs.  If you don’t have lot of space then you can get circle table or square table.  Using a dark color table can soak up a lot of your light and brightness of your room.  So you must use light color table.

3.  Chairs: You can always mix and match chairs.  It all depends on the style of the chair and your personal style.  If your design style is more vintage or little romantic you have more freedom to mix and match all different kinds of chairs.  If you are a minimalist type you need to stay closer to having one or two different kind of chairs.  You can even have a bench type of seating at one side of the table.  When you mix and match the chairs then make sure that the colors are of similar tone or shades.

4.  Light fixtures: Similar to rugs, light fixtures also help define the space.  It tells the eyes that this is its own little area and also on a practical front it lights up the table.  Lighting in a dining room is very important because it is totally a piece of art, it’s the focal point of the space to really make or break the vibe of the space.  You should have your light centered on to your table and it should spread around the table as well.  Your light should be at least 35 inches away from your table surface.

5.  Storage: Next important thing is organization and storage in your dining room.  If you have really big dining rooms and you can fit extra furniture up against the wall, then you can put a buffet table or a credenza.  You can also put your cupboards in the dining area for the storage and make it go with your dining table by matching the color and design of the two.

6.  Decor: Another interesting thing to decorate the dining room is putting a center piece on the dining room.  While picking a center piece just make sure that it is not too tall because then you can’t see people across from you.  Another thing is you can put art pieces on the wall in your dining room to decorate it.  You can also put some nice curtains on the windows in your dining table. Also put your curtains on the outside of the windows and not the inside of the windows, at least a foot out from the window that way all of the curtains when they are opened they will just sit right on the outside and they don’t take up any of your view or light from the window, they are functional and also frame the window which looks very nice.

Conclusion:  If you want your dining space to look good then you have to pick your dining table and chairs in a very symmetrical way and then take care of rugs, lighting fixtures and art work on the table and the wall to complete the look.

What determines the modular kitchen price?

Introduction

The one question that commonly people ask from interior designers and architects is what would be the price of my modular kitchen if I get one.  It is a general notion that modular kitchen is expensive but it is not true.  The cost of the modular kitchen depends upon various factors and these factors are as follows:

Price determining Factors of modular kitchen

1.  Size of the kitchen: The cost of the modular kitchen, first and foremost depends upon the size of the kitchen. If the size of the kitchen is bigger i.e. if it is L-shaped or U-shaped, or parallel more modules will be used hence the cost will go up, whereas if there is less space and only straight kitchen can be built then less modules will be used and cost will be less.

2.  Material used for cabinets: The cost of the modular kitchen also depends upon the material that one uses for the cabinets.  The material determines the strength and the water resistant quality.  Major material used for cabinets is pre laminated particle board, Medium density fiber board, wood plastic composit, and plywood.   So generally plywood is recommended for kitchen’s base cabinets and MDF can be used for top cabinets and depending upon your choice the price varies.

3.  Surface finishes: The surface finishes determine the look of the kitchen and there are many options for the surface finishes.  The range starts from laminates, acrylic, lacquered glass, stone, solid wood, veneer, and aluminum frame shutter.

Hardware, accessories, and countertops

4.  Hardware: Materials used to interconnect raw material are called hardware.  Some examples are hinges, channels, tandem box, pullouts, lifts etc.  So hardware is one of the major cost determining factors.  Hardware cost depends on the type and the make.

5.  Accessories and appliances: Appliances for the kitchen are: kitchen stove, chimney, microwave, oven etc.  And Accessories for the kitchen are plate holders, cutlery trays, tandem inserts, dish drainers.  So what accessories and appliances you use determines the cost of your kitchen and you must use accessories and appliances based on your specific needs.

6.  Countertops: Select countertops based on functionality and finish. And the types of countertops are:  Granite, marble, Italian granite, quartz etc.  You can find the cost of the kitchen using the combination of the above listed materials.

Conclusion:

All the above factors i.e. size of the kitchen, material you use for the cabinets, surface finishes, hardware, accessories and appliances, and countertops affect the price of the modular kitchen.

How to maintain the interiors? – Cleaning mistakes we want to avoid

We often spend lot of money in doing the interiors of our homes but we tend to make such mistakes that lead to harm our furniture and other assets.  So it is important to know what mistakes we are making and how to avoid them.  Here is a list of mistakes that we make:

Interiors: Cleaning Mistakes

1.  Cleaning polished wooden products with water: When we clean polished wooden furniture, doors, or railing with water then the polish chips offs.  So always clean the wooden products with dry cloth.

2.  Cleaning items made of leather or leatherite with water: Do not clean leather or leatherite of sofa or bed head board with water.  First clean it with dry cloth to remove dust then clean with water.

3.  Using toilet cleaning chemical to clean wash basin: If you clean your wash basin with toilet cleaning chemical then its shine will go away. As it has a lighter coating of ceramic then that of toilet.  This cleaning chemical wears off the metallic part of the wash basin as well.  It also harms the sievers of your wash basin that makes the wash basin leak.

4.  Cleaning glass items with soap water: Glass items should only be cleaned with plain water and not soap water.

5.  Using acid to clean marble, granite, and other stones: If you use acid to clean marble, granite, or other stones then they completely get ruined. And cannot be repaired.

Not using clean mop cloth

6.  One mop cloth all over the place: You must keep at least two to three mops for different areas of your home.  Also change the cleaning water at least twice while mopping the floor of the house.

7.  Not cleaning things that is used for cleaning: The mopping cloth itself that is used for cleaning is often not cleaned that leads to dirt getting spread next day when you use to clean it again.

8.  Not cleaning the dustbins: Often the garbage is thrown from the dustbin but the dustbin is not cleaned.  So you must clean the dustbin as well.

9.  Directly using the cleaning liquid or chemical on the cleaning surface: You must avoid using the cleaning liquid directly on the cleaning surface, instead take it on the cloth and clean it for better results.

It is always advisable to use microfiber cloth for cleaning.

Conclusion:  If we want our interiors to be maintained properly then we must know what mistakes we are making in cleaning them and avoid making those mistakes.

What type of baskets to use in your modular kitchen?

The reason why a modular kitchen is called as a modular kitchen is because of the baskets and trolleys that are used in it.  A modular kitchen gets its shape because of these baskets.  So it is important to know what type of baskets to use and how many types of baskets are there.

Modular kitchen baskets

1.  The first type of basket that is important to know about is the wired basket. These are made up of stainless steel.  There is one 202 grade basket, it is cheaper and another one is 304, which is better.  Then there are channels that are sliding, which are better as the baskets don’t go inside with a bang they go very smoothly.

2.  Second type of basket is the perforated basket of stainless steel. It is good to use perforated basket for keeping small utensils like spoons, knives etc. so they don’t fall down.  These items can fall down from the wired baskets so it is better to keep them in perforated baskets.  You can also use these baskets to keep the spice boxes.  Perforated basket is of fixed size it cannot be modified according to your needs.

Tandem channels and baskets

3.  You can use tandem channel to fix the perforated basket, this creates the third type of basket. This helps in accommodating even big baskets for your needs.  You can keep big boxes of grain also in the tandem channel.  It is very easy and smooth to use and is an advanced technology.  If you make your modular kitchen using all three types of baskets then your kitchen will look very good and will be easy to use.

4.  You can use tandem channels and in them you can use dividers either of plastic or of board, which creates this fourth type of basket.

While we are discussing about the baskets it is also important to discuss the importance of wire basket.  Wire basket is important because of its durability as it is made of stainless steel so it does not rust.  Another thing is that when we create drawers of that then dirt does not assemble there.  Wire basket is also good because the moment you open the drawer you can see everything.  Visibility and accessibility is very easy.  It is very easy to take out items in the wire basket whereas in the tandem channel when you build drawers you have to create partitions to make the accessibility easy.

Conclusion:  The conclusion is that it is better to use the wire baskets, perforated baskets, and tandem channel baskets in combination with each other for smooth functioning of your kitchen.
